Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics — What It Is and How to Use It

Product guide · Al Mahara · Updated 1 Nov 2026

Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics is Beauty of Joseon's best-known product: an SPF50+ PA++++ sunscreen that the brand describes as creamy yet lightweight, with a moisturiser-like feel.

This guide covers this one sunscreen in detail. To compare it with the brand's other sunscreens, see our Beauty of Joseon sunscreen guide. Sources are linked at the end.

What it is

A daily face sunscreen with SPF50+ against UVB and PA++++, the highest UVA grade on Korean and Japanese packs. Beauty of Joseon says it leaves a dewy finish with no white cast.

In some markets the brand now sells it as Relief Sun: Rice + Niacinamide; niacinamide is already on the Rice + Probiotics ingredient list.

Key ingredients

Beauty of Joseon says the formula contains 30% rice extract and fermented grain extracts (the 'probiotics' in the name), which give it its moisturising feel.

Read the ingredient list on the pack if you avoid particular ingredients.

Who it suits

It tends to suit normal, dry and combination skin, and anyone who wants a sunscreen that doubles as a light moisturiser in the morning.

Very oily skin may find the dewy finish too shiny by midday; our guide to sunscreen for oily skin covers matte alternatives.

How to use it

  1. Apply it as the last step of your morning skincare, after moisturiser.
  2. Use at least a teaspoon for the face, as the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) suggests.
  3. Apply before going outside; the AAD says sunscreen takes about 15 minutes to start protecting.
  4. Reapply every two hours outdoors, and straight after sweating or swimming.

Where it fits in your routine

Relief Sun is a morning step. Pair it with a gentle cleanser and a light moisturiser, and remove it at night with a cleansing oil or balm followed by your cleanser.
