Korean Sunscreen for Oily Skin in the UAE Heat
Product guide · Al Mahara · Updated 1 Nov 2026
Oily skin often skips sunscreen because many formulas feel heavy or turn shiny in hot weather. Korean sunscreens are popular here because many come in light gel, serum and matte textures.
This guide explains what to look for and lists options from our range whose makers describe them as matte, light or oil-controlling. Sources are linked at the end.
SPF and PA, in plain words
SPF measures protection from UVB, the rays that cause sunburn. PA is the Japanese and Korean grade for UVA protection, from PA+ to PA++++; more plus signs mean more UVA protection.
The American Academy of Dermatology recommends a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher, and a water-resistant one when you will be sweating or swimming. Every pick below is SPF50 or SPF50+.
Textures that suit oily skin
Look for words like matte, gel, watery, fluid or ultra-light on the pack, and avoid rich creams or anything described as dewy or moisturising if shine is your main problem.
Matte finishes
Beauty of Joseon Matte Sun Stick: described by the brand as sebum-controlling with a soft-matte finish, and made for reapplying over makeup.
Anua Invisible Matte Finish Sunscreen SPF50: its listing describes a soft matte feel and a lightweight texture that wears under makeup.
Light gels and serums
COSRX Ultra-Light Invisible Sunscreen SPF50 PA++++: its listing describes a sheer, fast-absorbing formula with niacinamide and no white cast.
Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun Gel: a lightweight, non-sticky gel sunscreen.
Medicube Zero Pore Moisture Sun Serum SPF50+ PA++++: a serum-like texture with no sticky residue, from Medicube's pore-care line.

How to wear sunscreen on oily skin in the heat
- Keep the rest of your morning routine light: a gentle cleanser and a gel moisturiser, or skip moisturiser if your sunscreen is hydrating enough.
- Apply enough — the AAD suggests at least a teaspoon for the face. Using less to avoid shine also means less protection.
- Give it a few minutes to set before makeup.
- During the day, blot shine with a tissue or blotting paper first, then reapply. A sun stick is the easiest way to top up over makeup.
- Reapply every two hours outdoors, and straight after sweating or swimming.
