Korean Skincare Routine for Oily and Acne-Prone Skin in the UAE Heat
Routine · Al Mahara · Updated 1 Nov 2026
Oily skin is tempting to scrub and strip, but harsh products can make things worse. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) says a face wash that is too harsh can irritate skin and trigger more oil, and recommends gentle products labelled oil-free and non-comedogenic.
Below is a light routine that suits hot, humid days, with Korean products whose makers describe them as light or made for oily and blemish-prone skin. This is general skincare advice, not acne treatment; sources are linked at the end.
Morning: keep it light
- Wash with a gentle foaming or gel cleanser and lukewarm water. Don't scrub.
- Apply a light, oil-free gel moisturiser. The AAD advises moisturising after cleansing even if your skin is oily.
- Finish with a light or matte sunscreen, SPF 30 or higher.

Night: cleanse, one treatment, moisturise
At night, choose one targeted product rather than several. The AAD notes that ingredients such as salicylic acid, glycolic acid and lactic acid can help reduce oiliness but may be too harsh for some skin; use them less often, or stop, if your skin becomes irritated.
- Cleanse gently. A salicylic acid cleanser is one option for oily skin.
- Use one treatment: for example a niacinamide serum, or a mild BHA (salicylic acid) toner a few evenings a week.
- Finish with your light moisturiser.

For the odd blemish
Spot creams are applied only where you need them. Leave blemishes alone: the AAD warns that picking or squeezing makes acne take longer to clear and raises the risk of scars and dark marks.
What to go easy on
If you are being treated for acne, the AAD suggests avoiding astringents, toners and exfoliants, which can dry the skin and make acne look worse; check with your dermatologist before adding a BHA toner. Don't stack several acid products on the same night.
Wash your face after heavy sweating, as the AAD recommends, and keep oily hair away from your face.
If breakouts are painful, leave marks or don't improve, see a dermatologist; acne treatment can take several weeks to a few months to show results.
