Beauty of Joseon Sunscreen Guide: Which Relief Sun Is Right for You?
Product guide · Al Mahara · Updated 1 Nov 2026
Beauty of Joseon is a Korean skincare brand best known for its Relief Sun sunscreen. All four of its sunscreens in this guide are labelled SPF50+ PA++++, so the real difference between them is texture and finish.
Below is what each one is, who it tends to suit, and how to use it. Product facts come from Beauty of Joseon's own pages and our product listings; sources are linked at the end.
Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics — the creamy, dewy original
Beauty of Joseon describes Relief Sun as a creamy-yet-lightweight sunscreen that feels like a moisturiser. The brand says it contains 30% rice extract plus fermented grain extracts, and leaves a dewy finish with no white cast.
It tends to suit normal, dry and combination skin, and anyone who wants their sunscreen to double as a light moisturiser in the morning. Very oily skin may find the dewy finish too shiny by midday.
In some markets the brand now sells it under the name Relief Sun: Rice + Niacinamide; niacinamide is already on the Rice + Probiotics ingredient list.
Relief Sun Aqua-Fresh: Rice + B5 — a lighter, watery version
Aqua-Fresh is the lighter member of the Relief Sun family. Its listing describes a lightweight, hydrating texture with 30% rice extract and pro-vitamin B5 (panthenol), and no white cast.
Choose it if you like the original but want something that feels fresher on warm days, or if you have combination skin.
Matte Sun Stick: Mugwort + Camelia — for oily skin and top-ups
The Matte Sun Stick is a solid stick that Beauty of Joseon describes as sebum-controlling, with a non-greasy, soft-matte finish. It contains mugwort (Artemisia capillaris) and green tea.
The brand designed it to be reapplied on the go, even over makeup, which makes it a practical second step for the reapplication most people skip. Oily skin often prefers it as the main sunscreen too.
Ginseng Moist Sun Serum — for people who like a serum feel
This one is a serum-textured sunscreen. Beauty of Joseon says it contains 30% ginseng extract and adenosine and absorbs quickly to a fresh, moist finish without white cast or stickiness.
It suits normal to dry skin, and people who dislike the feel of cream sunscreens.
Quick pick by skin type
Dry or normal skin: Relief Sun Rice + Probiotics or Ginseng Moist Sun Serum.
Combination skin: Relief Sun Aqua-Fresh.
Oily skin, or for reapplying during the day: Matte Sun Stick.
Sensitive skin: whichever you choose, try it on a small area first, such as along the jaw, for a few days before using it all over.
How to apply Beauty of Joseon sunscreen
Sunscreen only protects as well as it is applied. These steps follow Beauty of Joseon's instructions and the American Academy of Dermatology's sunscreen advice.
- Use it as the last step of your morning skincare, after moisturiser.
- Apply a generous amount to your face and neck. The American Academy of Dermatology suggests at least a teaspoon for the face — about the length of your index and middle fingers.
- Apply before you go outside; the AAD says sunscreen takes about 15 minutes to start protecting.
- Reapply every two hours outdoors, and straight after sweating or swimming. A sun stick makes this easier over makeup.
