How to Use COSRX Snail Mucin Essence: Step-by-Step Routine

Tutorial · Al Mahara · Updated 1 Nov 2026

COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence is one of the best-known K-Beauty products. COSRX says it contains 96.3% snail secretion filtrate and sodium hyaluronate, and describes it as a lightweight essence for all skin types, especially sensitive or post-breakout skin.

Here is how to use it, following COSRX's own instructions.

Where snail mucin goes in your routine

An essence goes after cleansing and toning, and before serum, moisturiser and sunscreen. As a rule, apply the thinnest products first and the thickest last.

  1. Cleanse and pat your face dry.
  2. Apply toner if you use one.
  3. Apply a small amount of the essence (one or two pumps is plenty) over your whole face.
  4. Gently pat with your fingertips until it sinks in.
  5. Follow with moisturiser.

Morning and night

Morning: cleanser, essence, moisturiser, then sunscreen as the last step before makeup.

Night: cleanser, essence, moisturiser. COSRX suggests you can finish with a mask at night.

What to pair it with

The essence works on its own, but COSRX's Advanced Snail line is designed to be used together: the Advanced Snail Mucin Gel Cleanser to cleanse, the essence, and the Advanced Snail 92 All in One Cream to finish.

Good to know

It is made from a snail-derived ingredient, so it is not suitable if you avoid animal-derived skincare.

COSRX gives a shelf life of 12 months after opening.

As with any new product, try it on a small area first if your skin reacts easily.
